Demon Divas and the Lanes of Damnation review

Demon Divas and the Lanes of Damnation

"They might just bowl you over" (ok...lame...sorry)

I just love movies that remind me of my puberty days, late night's watching Rhonda Shear...oh, some great nights there. I am a sucker for Shot on Video, think of titles like Woodchipper Massacre and Video Violence....that's what Demon Divas made me feel like I was watching....and trust me, that's not a bad thing.

Released by Happy Cloud Pictures, written and directed by Mike Watt, Demon Divas (I will shorten the title a bit) pays obvious homage to Sorority Babes at the SlimeBall Bowl-A-Rama including even having very similar characters...believe me, I'm not complaining because I am not alone in missing these types of movies. Lead by some of the BEST in Scream Queens like Brinke Stevens, Debbie Rochon, Amy Lynn Best and Lilith Stabs you can expect fun and well...more fun.

We find out that the local bowling alley, Coventry Lanes has been purchased by a group of females. Hiring some of the less than popular young ladies in town, once the snobs show up and show their true colors...things escalate to Evil. I found that this was the perfect film to sit back and just enjoy. Plenty of boobs, a Hunk and some down right fun special effects make this one to look for.

I can't be alone in my forever love for Brinke Stevens. She can hold your attention while on screen still, plus just always looks sexy when she is "bad". Plus when you bring together some of the hardest working women, seriously, on the Independent's...you are destined to enjoy what is happening on screen. Someone I hadn't seen before Sofiya Smirnova, did a great job and should be in more films (just my 2 cents).

Big props to Mike and Amy for doing what they enjoy, making movies with who they like and just having fun. I was lucky enough to speak with them and find out more about the happenings with Happy Cloud and their intentions....they are super. For me, it's like being 16yrs old, staying up until 1am enjoying the fun, silly horror films with the bonus of naughty.

This Mortal Coil - Based on a True Story

This Mortal Coil

Sean King, who plays Void Ghouligan from the extremely popular "The Ghouligans" posted a quick 18 minute short yesterday titled "This Mortal Coil" with the simple tag line "Based on a True Story". The based on a true story always gets me..I instantly through up the white flag and after reviewing countless films claiming the same, I almost set up a barrier against that "warning".

Before the review, let me give you the actual meaning of This Mortal Coil - Mortal coil is a poetic term that means the troubles of daily life and the strife and suffering of the world. It is used in the sense of a burden to be carried or abandoned, most famously in the phrase "shuffle[d] off this mortal coil" from Shakespeare's Hamlet. (thanks wiki :)

I believe the meaning of the title has more meaning than you think. The story quickly also became very believable, as I am sure this epidemic is happening in the modern society often.

This Mortal Coil is the story of love and devotion written by Paul Natale, creating a world that you control and falling for the love of your life. Vampires, more than ever are almost a desire to many, so when Matthew (Drew Moore), a simplistic introvert is captivated by a young Vampire, he is instantly lovestruck. Emily Wallace plays the young, wanna be Vampire Vixen and is totally believable in her role.

Similiar to George A Romero's Martin, Matthew wants to prove his love ...at any cost. Without spoiling the film, I will simply say...the was a breath of fresh air for me a viewer and a reviewer. King has proven he has talent as a director as Natale shows that he can write a script that relates to the youth of America and is not pursuaded by the Twilight rage. Vampirism is real....take a bite and watch!

Crestfallen - think twice, cut once

Crestfallen review

Jeremiah Kipp is the real deal folks. Crestfallen is a silent, short 6 minute griping look at coping with life. Actress Deneen Melody proves her range and ability as she exposes her feelings to the viewer through her genuine portrayal of a Wife who finds her Husband has betrayed her.

Dominick Sivilli just makes shot for shot so epic and captivating that you are simply speechless. It's almost like the perfect storm. The lighting, the mood...everything is captured. Jeremiah Kipp continues to assemble himself with a team that are bound for bigger and better.

This was my 1st time seeing Deneen Melody infront of the camera and she had my attention. I truly think she has the "it" factor, she has the nice girl next door look and the striking beauty that makes her a pleasure to watch.

Hats off to Kipp and crew on a well done short that tells a story without ever speaking a word.

Blood, Boobs and Beast - A Pleasant Find

Blood, Boobs and Beast

Sometimes you stumble upon a great documentary that just grabs you and makes you take notice for a numerous amount of reasons. Blood, Boobs and Beast is one of those documentaries that did just that. Following the later life experinces of Baltimore Independent Film Maker, Don Dohler and the cult following he had, Blood, Boobs and Beast show the ups and downs of film making....thinking of making a film? Watch this!

When involved in Horror film making people are often asked; "what's the key to a successful Horror film?" Well, the 3 B's come into play - Blood (which most Horror films have), Boobs (come on...what would 80's Horror be without it?) and Beast (I think of this more as a metaphor than actual, but a great Beast never hurt). Is that all that it takes? As seen in this inside look at life as a B-Movie film maker, you will quickly see the sacrifices made to follow a dream.

Don Dohler is a name you may have never heard of, but Dohler is an Icon to many. Making films like Alien Factor, Fiend, Blood Massacre, Vampire Sisters and Dead Hunt you begin to understand the journey that was made as a film maker. The Baltimore/DC area has some extremely talented people, from Famed Horror Host Count Gore DeVol (Dick Dyzel), film maker Kevin Kangas (Fear of Clowns), JimmyO Burril and wife April (Chainsaw Sally and Forbidden Pictures) whom I am sure, were influenced and/or worked with Dohler. The name that stood out for me on this documentary, personally was Joe Ripple.

Now, over this past summer I was honored to work with Kevin Kangas on the Garden of Hedon feature, during this time I was introduced to Joe. Honestly, I also felt I was on top of Independent features and films...little did I know I had just met an Icon. Joe was completely humble and simply taking pictures and enjoying being on the set.

With that being said, watching this film you see the partnership between Dohler and Ripple. How they deal with actors no showing on set, life off the set and even as Dohler was diagnosed with Brain and Lung Cancer you can truly see the friendship and bond.

John Kinhart, who sat through tons of hours of footage and interviews puts together a film that is more than just an inside look or behind the scenes...it was a celebration of the B Movie film maker. Interviews from Tom Savini to JJ Abrams set the mood for a real look at Don Dohler.

I really can not express how great this was for me to watch and enjoy. The fans who know the lines, word for word to features by Dohler that were made with no big budgets, not amazing effects...these were made for the love of making movies. I'm sure this write up doesn't do the film or legacy that Dohler created, justice but if this creates an awareness for anyone who wants to enjoy the fun in film...look for some of these films.

I also want to mention, looking back how great it was to be on set with someone who didn't feel like he had to make others aware of what he does or did. For that Joe Ripple, I thank you....you proved to me (without knowing it or trying), roughly 6 months later that you LOVE film. That's the inspiration..right there.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Yep, it's been a while since I sat and wrote. This past weekend I attended MonsterMania in Cherry Hill, NJ, I'm lucky enough to have Dave (Promoter) trust me enough to host different events including the Yorkie auction (which I totally enjoy and love). The title of this little write up, describes what I can see forming....it's nothing bad, a bit personal for me and could possibly change the landscape of Horror.

The longer I am around I am finding my own place...it's hard when you start out. You have to take the bull by the horns and play the hand you are dealt. I take pride on being personable, I like to have fun and joke but I also know marketing and enjoy hype. I know, I know..."Rob you are being so vague"...Well, at this point I have to be, moves are being made, ideas are being tossed around and I sincerly hope I am in the front of it.

Marketing is tough, building your own brand isn't easy and sometimes having someone to reach out too is all
you need. I have years of experience in Marketing, Sales, Public Speaking, Writing and having a decent idea for planning. After having a few discussions this past weekend, I truly hope that these ideas reach the surface and that something Truly Wicked comes and helps all!

VooDoo...with practice you can too!

VooDoo - The Hovering Card Trick

I know, it's beena while since I actually wrote something...what can I say? I've been busy...or lazy, you choose. So, yesterday I took my trip to Lansdale, PA and visited my favorite hot spot - Kurt's Magic World.

After working on a few things, Kurt showed me this little diddy...the Hovering Card Trick. I was blown away...like..seriously. This is a home run in easy, beginners magic. It's powerful. For $15, I had to buy one...plus I figured maybe I would start to show and review some of the tricks or Magic dvds I pick up. I know..how much more of a nerd can you become Dimension?

Stay tuned...until next week...here is a teaser video.

Rob Dimension joins the cast of Midnite Mausoleum...sort of

Dimension joins Midnite Mausoleum

As the widely popular Midnite Mausoleum horror hosting show gears up for the new season, season 4 for those keeping track, some behind the scenes discussions have been underway. Rob Dimension, formerly of Late Night at the Horror Hotel, has resurfaced and looks to be joining the cast of Midnite Mausoleum….sort of. It seems, Dimension who claims his “mis-understanding” with the female cast at Midnite Mausoleum are cleared up, is looking to venture into one of the most popular shows sweeping the country.

Dimension has started his “Geek Speak” web series that has gained some attention, according to Dimension; “….this thing is going viral, on my latest, I have 34 views. I couldn’t be happier.” The Geek Speak premise is a discussion of Comics, films, pop culture or anything that is on Dimension’s mind. For more information, visit www.RobDimension.com  Rob has also stated he will continue to release new Geek Speaks episodes for The Strange Kids Club blog site (Strangekidsclub.com) and will randomly add more footage on his youtube account.

Blake Powell, the Midnite Mausoleum’s producer wanted to add about the addition, “We are very excited that Dimension is 900 miles away and will only be a part of the show via video. Marlena and Robyn are relived about the distance too and feel much safer but, we all enjoy Dimension’s humor. The Geek Speak segments can allow us to direct new business to our comic shop, plus create awareness about what else is out there. We have officially established boundaries including any and/or all video must be shot with (Dimension’s) pants on.“ At time of press contact, Marlena Midnite, the show’s host, was currently out of the country on vacation and stated that “Discussing Rob’s involvement isn’t worth the $1 for WiFi and doesn’t Foreign countries have enough problems?” We see the point Ms. Midnite.

What does this mean for fans of Midnite Mausoleum? This allows the Midnite crew to have a larger presence at the East Coast conventions that Dimension attends; Midnite merchandise will be available at these cons if Dimension has a table. Dimension in closing stated “I have been a fan of this crew for quite some time, in all seriousness, we think a lot alike. We all grew a rapid TV presence through hard work and they know what it takes to be a success.”

Want to learn more about Midnite Mausoleum? For TV stations and listings, visit http://www.midnitemausoleum.com . Also be sure to pick up their latest dvd, T shirts or posters. Marlena and Robyn (and Dimension) can also be found on Facebook and Twitter. Plus, if you need your comic fix, stop by Midnite’s Comic’s at 201 5th avenue south Clinton,IA or give them a call at 563 242 0188

Kim Dimension's Top 5 Zombie Movies

Dimension (the Mrs.) gives her Top 5 Zombie Movies of All Time!

Well, it’s me, Kim Dimension….I know, poor me. With 2010 out like a light, I figured I would flex my flesh eating muscles and give you my top 5 Zombie Movies of all time.

I LOVE the Zombie genre; the debates if slow or fast runners are better…the possibilities on what to do, seen on the big screen during the Almighty Apocalypse. Ahhh…the smell of rotting flesh is in the air! Without further ado, let see where your favorites fall on my list:

5. Zombieland

This 2010 DVD release did well in theaters and developed an even bigger following on the infection came home. It was directed by Ruben Fleischer, and honestly, the opening credits of this movie alone are the reason that this movie made my top 5.Having rules to follow will only help you stay alive as the Zombie Apocalypse, so while watching have a pen and paper handy. The movie stars Woody Harrelson; Jesse Eisenberg; Emma Stone & Abigail Breslin…does anyone else call Eisenburg a fake Michael Cera? Regardless, the movie had great casting; the characters had good chemistry together. The movie has some great fight season, special effects & comedy, plus a Bill Murray cameo. Did I ruin that surprise for you? If it helps, he dies…oh no!!!!! I’m awful at this, but come on, who hasn’t sat and watched this one? I wouldn’t consider this a horror movie, but still felt it should make my list anyway.

4. Dawn of the Dead

(1978) - Written & Directed by George A. Romero – Who isn’t a fan of good ole’ Uncle George? Dawn poses the lifelong question that sits in every Zombie lover’s mind - Who hasn’t thought of where they would go if there was no more room in Hell, and the dead walked the Earth? The malls have changed so much in the 30+ years since this hit, now having food courts, plenty of places to get the hottest shoes, sorry I am a girl!! Most of the movie takes place out in Pittsburgh, at the Monroeville Mall…the Graceland for many fans of the flesh eaters. The mall, the story, the battle of simple survival makes everyone think, it’s an iconic setting.Zombie version of Flyboy is one of my all time favorite zombies, him holding the gun, with the crocked foot….awesome. Go pay some homage to the Zombie Lord, re-watch this one tonight.

3. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Written by: Edgar Wright & Simon Pegg This British version of the zombie outbreak doesn’t take itself serious, with Simon Pegg & Nick Frost to battle the evil flesh eaters, but makes for a really fun watch. Shaun is oblivious to everything going on around him as he is so hung over and his mind is only on getting his ex, Liz back.Hey Shaun, “you’ve got red on you”….I need to know someone named Shaun, throw something red on him just to say that..add that to my 2011 goals. Some inventive and fun scenes like when they act like zombies and walk right by the real zombies is crazy, but you know that a few of us would consider trying it if we were in the same situation. In closing, who wouldn’t want to keep Ed as a pet zombie confined in their shed? I know I would.

2. Night of the Living Dead (1990)

Directed by Tom Savini - I chose this Tom Savini remake (This was before remakes sucked ass), just due to Savini keeping the Romero story so close, his vision of sickness, plus his kick ass style of special effects over the original classic.Great casting, Horror Icon, Bill Moseley (Otis – from Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses & Devil’s Reject’s) as Barbara’s brother Johnny that dies in the cemetery in the beginning and with having Tony Todd (Candyman, Candyman, Candyman – I said it 3 times and nothing happened…….Damn it!!!! I really wanted to see the Candyman, what I wouldn’t do for a Snickers bar right now, because they really do satisfy) make this movie an instant classic for Cult Horror fans. The movie has the same racial underlying tension between the Harry and Ben characters, seen in the Original and it still carries over well here. The entire party mix makes the group uncomfortable and really makes you think about society, even today. Harry and his family locking themselves in the basement, Tom Towles really captures the essence while Patricia Tallman (Barbara) goes from helpless victim to full fledged zombie assassin. Even though it’s much of the same, I just found this remake more enjoyable then the original counterpart.

1.Dawn of the Dead (2004) – Directed by Zack Snyder. I know this will be a controversial choice for zombie purist since A) This is a remake of a beloved classic. B) This contains a Zombie Baby, yes…I know, I know…it’s dumb but, on my version, I have deleted that scene. C) It deals with the constant battle over slow or fast zombies…but fast zombies are scary as hell.

I love this remake due to more characters in a modern mall, where the survivors use the surroundings the way I see myself using it, I’m not a coffee drinker but that coffee shop looked yummy. A strong cast with Ving Rhames, Sarah Polley, Mekhi Phifer & Ty Burell, makes the interaction with the other survivors enjoyable, I know I can relate the some of the antics. Ty Burell, from Modern Family, plays Steve Marcus a major jerkoff, so, it is easy for everyone to want to shoot him in the head. The effects are remarkable and even the fast zombies makes it more intense…as I write this, I’m literally on the edge of my seat.

I have a soft spot in my un-beating heart for the slow moving flesh eaters, but these are super human flesh eaters and they can totally rip you apart. Now, let’s see how may of us can survive this type of zombie invasion…I would trip Rob and head for the hills. Oh, and I will not forget to get the boat keys from Steve if I have to shoot him in the head. I wouldn’t want to go on the boat with him, but would surely take his boat without him, so suck on that Capt’n.
