Kaiju Review - War of the Gargantuas

War of the Gargantuas

By : Rob Dimension

Released in Japan by Toho in 1966 under the title - Frankenstein's Monsters: Sanda versus Gaira, War of the Gargantuas was almost a sequel to Frankenstein vs. Baragon (Frankenstein Conquers the World).

The Gargantuas have been created from the cells of the Frankenstein monster and are described as Brothers (even referred to as Clones). Gaira, the Green Gargantua lives in the ocean, having a taste for human flesh and some serious anger issues is the first to arrive on the scene. Destroying ships, eating the crew and crashing parties (almost eating the singer...TOHO - why the musical number?). While Sanda, the Brown Gargantua is the opposite, living in the Japan Alps and being more kind and docile (I mean..as nice as a Gargantua can be).

For the earlier parts of the film you watch as the military starts to piece together the Gargantuas story. From flashbacks to when a young Frankenstein was being rasised to the scientists figuring out that if the military continues to harm the Gargantuas, cells from their skin will create more Gargantuas and will soon take over the Earth.

I won't spoil the finish for the film, but I will touch on a few things : The interaction between Gaira and Sanda is fun. If you are fan of Epic battles between to huge, city crushing monsters...then this film is for you. Early on you see the brotherly instinct take over as Sanda wants to help the injured Gaira, but that soon leads to Sanda realizing that Gaira has turned to the dark side. The battle sequences are fun, well done and would make any Kaiju fan giggle with excitement.

My final word on this film is simple. It has it's place within the Godzilla universe, if you haven't seen it...do yourself a favor and check it out. I think the most current release has it paired with Rodan in a Dvd 2 pack, you certainly can't go wrong with that. The musical number just made me cringe and smile at the same time and all I could hope was that Gaira would go through and eat the singer and "get stuck in his throat".

Late Night checks out the Good Sisters (movie review)

The Good Sisters Movie Review

A few weeks ago, the guys at Late Night at the Horror Hotel had a chance to sit and watch "The Good Sisters" from Forbidden Pictures. Here is the video review and below is the written review from Rob Dimension. Enjoy and make sure you visit www.ForbiddenPictures.net for more info. This DVD hits shelves on April 27 - so don't wait!!

A movie that involves Witchcraft and hot chicks usually is a must watch for me. Throw in April Monique Burril and Debbie Rochon and it's now mandatory to see. I was sent the new JimmyO Burril film, The Good Sisters to review, here are my thoughts -

The Good Sisters Synopsis - Breanne Good (Debbie Rochon, TROMEO AND JULIET) and Kindra Good (April Monique Burril, CHAINSAW SALLY) are sisters with a secret life -- practioners of witchcraft, glamours, and black magick. Fiercely protective of their privacy, craft, and ancient bloodline, they become suspicious of their new neighbor Daniel (David Calhoun, CHAINSAW SALLY) who also leads a life shrouded in mystery. Unsure if he is unnaturally obsessed with them - or if they are only being paranoid -- the Good Sisters will have to draw all their power about them as it becomes clear their ages-old battle of good versus evil, light versus dark, freedom versus oppression may be about to begin again. Which leaves the question ... who is being Good, and who is not?

In the beginning of viewing, I was wondering what was going on since you have two sisters who are Witches, the most nosiest of neighbors and a bizarre downstairs neighbor that wears rubber gloves, doesn't have any furniture and is obsessed with the "sisters upstairs". Quickly, the story begins to unfold, but you are unsure if what you are watching is reality or paranoia within the girls minds.

I will not spoil the movie for anyone, but I will say I enjoyed the film. Rochon's character, Breanne Good, really controls the first 2 acts and seems like the more sane of the two, the dominant. She is very comfortable within the role and plays the part of a witch, fantastic.

Burril, playing Kindra Good, really comes into her own in the last act of the film. The normal, psycho crazy character that we are used to seeing her play (ok, did I get over the point that see comes off nutty?...lol), just makes the ending that much stronger.

I would love to see these two back in a film together but on opposite sides, I feel that Rochon has helped Burril grow as an actress and they almost feed off of each other. They have great chemistry on screen.

JimmyO has stepped up in this film also. He has grown as a director and writer, at least since Chainsaw Sally (I liked the film but can tell that both JimmyO and April are both seasoned now). The use of shadows, color, subtle music and atmosphere all bring this film together. Trick camera work also helps add to the paranormal aspect to the movie. I look forward to more from JimmyO in the future.

In closing, I would recommend this film. The Good Sisters is a clean, glossy finished film that is a step higher than most Independent films out right now. They prove that little gore, good casting and a decent story can make a fun film. Looking forward to the next project!

The shows from Yesterday - Remembering Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot

Ah yes, remember the days of getting off your school bus and running home to watch those certain, "must see, can't miss" shows? I don't think that the kids today have the same feeling, shows aren't the same.

Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot was a show that was similar in taste to Ultraman, Space Giants and Spectreman to name a few, and for many, is a long lost childhood memory.

The Earth is under attack from the dreaded Gargoyle Gang and it's up to the uber secret organazation of Unicorn to help keep the peace. Can Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot save the day?

Late Night at the Horror Hotel, next week will be filming a special "Kaiju Cinema" 1/2 hour show that will feature some of these shows. Up first will be Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot. The show will be an internet only show and will run an approximate 30 minutes. Keep in mind, quality of these shows is below standard level but we are going to do our best to give you guys a trip down memory lane with (Hopefully) plenty of laughs along the way.

Godzilla Final Wars review

Godzilla Final Wars Review

It's not hard to be a fan of the greatest Monster of them all - Godzilla. Both hosts of Late Night are HUGE fans of Kaiju and the Big "G" himself.

Like most of us, Godzilla is embedded into our childhood, through countless viewing hours of huge, epic battles of the Gargantuan monsters on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. In 2004, the battles stopped due to the Final Wars.

Plot Synopsis - Godzilla's 50th Anniversary project, in which Gojira (Godzilla) travels around the world to fight his old foes plus a new, mysterious monster named Monster X.

Let's hear what the guys had to say about this instant classic -

Film synopsis - An isolated house in the woods looks like an easy mark to a group of friends camping in the Maine wilderness. The thieves haul away several ounces of pot and hallucinogenic mushrooms in the heist. But when the homeowners track them down, the friends learn too late that there are some people you just shouldn't mess with... and that they picked The Wrong House

So, Shawn French was kind enough to send us a screener copy of The Wrong House for the guys to check out. Here is what they said concerning the film -

Exclusive Peek at Late Night at the Horror Hotel

Welcome to Late Night at the Horror Hotel

Thanks for checking out a clip from our first episode. We hope everyone enjoys and plans on tuning in on Friday April 30th for the complete episode. We want to hear your feedback!! Please feel free to share this with your friends and spread the word!

It seems Rob the Clerk is unhappy with the way that the “Undead” are treated and devises a plan to create a telethon to help.  Chef John and Pugly, both made a point to warn Rob that his pleas would likely go unanswered. Rob’s response was to provide a “commercial to create awareness”, in the spirit of the Sarah McLachlan, ASPCA commercial to “Angel”, take a look and…well, we guess… be aware.

This clip will air during our first episode, as we Host - “Night of the Living Dead” on Late Night at the Horror Hotel. Obviously, a parody, we hope all enjoy and make no attempt to call the number.

Late Night at the Horror Hotel - Now reviewing movies too??

Yes, Chef John and Rob the Clerk...and Pugly the Bellhop will sit in on a few too, will now begin reviewing movies directly from the set of Late Night at the Horror Hotel.

Late Night at the Horror Hotel, a late night horror host show that features Chef John, Rob the Clerk and Pugly the Bellhop dealing with life on the Graveyard shift in Purgatory. The show is currently in post production and will be available via the internet, local public access and on DVD. This is a great opportunity to get to know the guys better and also learn about some films you may have not heard about before.

As some of you might know, Rob the Clerk (Rob Dimension) has written for several horror sites and has recently begun reviewing films. Here is your chance to be seen by a larger audience. John Cannon and Rob Dimension are both avid horror fans and have sat through some of the best and worst in horror, let others hear about your movie.

Interested? If you are a film maker and want your favorite graveyard shift employee’s to watch and review your film, here are the details:

·         - All films submitted to Late Night at the Horror Hotel are agreeing to have their movie details and cover art shown on the review. Trailers may also be attached.

·         - All movies submitted MUST come with Cover art; the guys want to have something to show people. If you are serious about your project then a good presentation is valuable. At least something that the guys can use as a visual, let us know if other arrangements can be made.

·        -  Please understand, the production value will not be as high at the TV show, the guys are doing this as a way to help Independent film makers get the products seen. We are hoping to have more people become fans of your film.

·         - All reviews will NOT be positive. The guys will not spoil a lot of details; just mention the basics, the good and the bad. If your film does not appeal to the guys, they will mention whom it might appeal too. Our goal is not to offend or push potential viewers away from your hard work.

·         - Not all movies will be chosen. We have already gotten several films to review and not all can be chosen. We are aiming at releasing 6-8 video reviews per month. Rob Dimension may opt to write a written review about your film on the BlogSpot. Please include an email address and contact info, so we may contact for any reason.

Our main purpose for this is to help the Independent Film Makers out there, desperately trying to have people notice their films. We firmly believe that the life line of Horror is on the Independent level. For more information, contact us via Facebook or email at LateNightHorrorHotel@hotmail.com

Thanks – Rob the Clerk, Chef John and Pugly the Bellhop and rest of the graveyard shift at the Late Nigth at the Horror Hotel

What a weekend...Late Night at the Horror Hotel will soon be online

This past weekend, we were able to shoot the "Night of the Living Dead" episode and "Plan 9 From Outer Space" episode. Granted, these are the very first episodes we have done and weren't sure what to expect. After shooting it, seeing what we can do with the set, enjoying everyone's creativeness and realizing that the co-hosts are a couple of hams, we feel confident that everyone will enjoy the show.

Matt Burd, the producer and owner of Horror Shop Films was utilizing his vast knowledge of shooting film and offered so much creative direction, things looked better than originally hoped. With use of lighting, camera angles and positioning, the shots that I saw were fantastic. Make sure you visit Matt's short horror film www.Pizzamanfilm.com and watch for some clips of Late Night at the Horror Hotels cameo, the lines that were used are not for the young at heart and will shock many. (Word of advice: Don't tell Cannon and Dimension they can use "R" rated language, the result will make anyone blush)

Speaking of Cannon and Dimension, these guys put a lot of effort into the show and had the crew shoot many takes with different ad-libs, just to see what would work. Cannon really plays the straight man role well and his Creature Cooking segments are something different that isn't seen anywhere else. Plus, he made sure he brought dinner for everyone. Coke a Cola Pot Roast and a 4 Cheese Pasta sauce with Spaghetti and Turkey Meatballs were on the menu = TREMENDOUS. Everyone enjoyed the night.

Dimension is not afraid to make himself the fool. Take fall after fall on the concrete floor proved he was serious, and honestly, a little looney.Giving these guys freedom to do what they wanted proved to be the best possible scenario. They both claimed to have crammed in tons of Abbott and Costello, watched Elvira (come on, who doesn't?), and wanted to make the most of the night.

We will have more information updated later the week. Make sure you visit them on Facebook right now (link is on the side of the page) and check out some set pictures, promo shots and see what "Pugly the Bell Hop" looks like, she stole everyone's hearts that was on the set.
